What Makes You Come Alive?

  1. Pray: A vocation is a call from God.  That means you need to take time to ask what He is calling you to and then listen for an answer.  Daily prayer is important.  That continual conversation with God allows you to come to know His voice and distinguish it from the world, the flesh, and the devil.  A weekly Holy Hour in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament is also a great help to discernment.
  2. What are your deep desires?:  God has made you for a mission and has shaped you, your gifts, talents and desires to fit that mission.  What are those deep desires on your heart.  What is it that makes you come alive?
  3. Do the thing: Visit the seminary, talk to your pastor or vocation director, join the discernment group.  You have to actually do thing to discern.  Just being vaguely open and thinking about it every once in a while isn’t going to help you hear God’s call.  You can’t drive a parked car – move.
  4. Do not be afraid: Fear is a terrible way to discern.  Discernment can’t be running away from something out of fear.  It must be a moving toward something in freedom. Know that God has a plan for your happiness.  As long as you discern honestly with the Lord, He will lead you where you need to go. Be at peace.
